Hoi An – Vietnam

Our last day in Hue we headed down with Hue Rider to Hoi An and made stops along the way to the Elephant Waterfall, Dam Lap An for lunch, Hai Van Pass (Top Gear) and checked out Marble Mountain in Danang before arriving in Hoi An.

These guys were great and so much fun, we paid around 55USD per person which was well worth it.

Our stayed with Vinh Hung Library Hotel, which was one of my favourite hotels in Vietnam! They had a buffet breakfast plus a pool on the roof , which came useful as it was incredibly hot.We ended up staying here for 5nights instead of the 3nights we originally booked.

During our stay we went on a countryside bicycle tour with Heaven and Earth, which we check out the villages by crossing to the islands on the Song Thi river delta using a boat which my boyfriend decided if would be a good idea to take over (photo below), I mean the driver didn’t mind haha.

During our cycle around we learnt how to weave the Hoi An sleeping mats (photo below), testing out the Vietnamese basket boats and how to make Rice Wine at Mr Dau home who is a very popular wine maker now.

The lady at the Basket Boats was called Sexy Lady, she was so nice and funny. Teaching us the technique used for most fishing (photo below).

This experience of cycling around Cam Kim island was amazing and it’s a must in Hoi An.

Beside cycling around we did hire scooters for a couple of days to go to My Son, which took around an hour on a scooter to get there and we left early in the morning to avoid crowds. My Son Sanctuary is a UNESCO World Heritage site as it used to be once the holiest place in the Kingdom of Champa. My Son Sanctuary dates from the 4th to the 13th centuries CE and it used to have over 70 temples but now they have around 25 partially standing structures. It’s like the Angkor Wat but it was damaged in the Vietnam War.

We did a day trip to Dalang, headed to check out the Lady Buddha which is the largest Buddha statue in Vietnam which is in the Linh Ung Pagoda on the Son Tra Peninsula.

Near our Hotel was the Old Town of Hoi An, which is in 1999 was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To walk around the old town you have to by a ticket which gives you access to certain places like the museum, the Japanese bridge and to walk around the town. This was amazing at night with all the light but sometimes we would have power cuts so you couldn’t see much. This actually happened quite a bit while we stay here due to a storm from the previous week.

During our time here we did go to the beach but to my surprise there were heaps of small jellyfish too…so I didn’t swim too much in the sea but the pool at our hotel. We also got a lot of clothes through a tailor like dresses, pants, shirts and a jacket, which were mostly  done at TA TA cloth shop in the cloth market. Remember to alway bargain too.

Hoi An is amazing places and wished we could have stayed longer.
